If you think making money from your Instagram account is just about having a lot of followers, then I’ve got news for you: that advice is totally WRONG.

In today’s post, I’m going to show you the TRUTH about Instagram – selling, growing, creating.

Not only will I reveal the 3 most common Instagram myths on the planet, but I’ll show you proven methods that can help you get on the right track.

Instagram Myth #1: Engagement Pods Are A great Way to Grow Your Account

Back in the day, when instagram was a picture sharing platform, engagement pods were THE thing to do.. And if you were invited to a solid one you felt like royalty and from what we were told were the best thing to do for our content…

At least that’s what we all thought, and to some extent it did. That’s why this approach to increasing engagement became so popular.

However, engagement pods aren’t as effective as they used to be.

The main reason?

It’s fake engagement.

If you don’t know what a “pod” is ((and no I’m not talking about Love Is Blind Pods here)), it was a group of people that would have a group chat together and let everyone know when they uploaded a new post. That way the pod could go like, comment, share that post.

There are other reasons too. Think about this… you’re in this pod and the same 10-30 people are giving you all of this engagement… then the pod breaks up or you get kicked out and what happens… your engagement TANKSSSSS… and when engagement tanks, Instagram doesn’t think there is a reason to push out your content anymore.

It’s one of the worst things you can do for your account.

Which means that to get engagement on your posts, you can’t just rely on a small group of people to do the work for you.

What to do instead

You need to roll up your sleeves and create content that is ENGAGING to your followers. Creating relatable, helpful or motivational content that makes them feel the need to comment or like or save or share your post.

So if you’re looking to get more engagement on your posts, here’s the approach I recommend trying out.

Starting off your post or reel with a STRONG HOOK. A hook will tell the viewer what they are going to get out of the post as well as spark curiosity. That will get them to the end.. And at the end you need to have a STRONG CALL TO ACTION. Tell them to like the post if it resonated with them… remind them to save the post for later, to tag a friend in the comments, or share to their stories to let everyone know…

Believe it or not, these things will greatly improve your engagement rates.

Instagram Myth #2: Posting 3+ times a day is the only way to grow

Trying to create 3+ pieces of content every single day is overwhelming.

There’s so much content out there it’s hard to compete – and if you’re posting that often, likely your posts are not going to be able to stand out. And then you spend hours creating posts that no one sees.

And if that’s not enough, here are 3 other reasons posting so much won’t work:

  • Reason #1:  You run out of ideas fast
  • Reason #2: You wind up publishing low-quality content
  • Reason #3: Plus, you won’t be able to focus on promoting your services or products the way you need.

What to do instead

While there is no right or wrong way to post, I have found that focusing on creating 5-7 SOLID pieces of content every single week will do much more to grow your account. It will help your account grow faster. Combine this with a solid selling strategy, and you’ll not only grow your account but also make more money.

The best part is, you’ll save time and have more focus.

Instagram Myth #3: You should only be posting reels to grow your Instagram account.

The truth? Posting what you WANT will grow your account.

Even though you may see these flashy reels with hooks like “This is the only way to grow an IG account in 2024” and then it says, you have to only post reels. PSST- don’t believe them! They’re doing this as clickbait, and while it does work for their intended purpose to get more views – it is deceitful and simply not true

To really get the results you want, you should be creating the content that you ENJOY creating. Reels? Great! Static graphic posts? Great! Carousels? Great!

My friend Tara went viral for carousels. She loves making them and rarely posts reels.
My other friend Michelle went viral for a static post – it’s all relative

The most important thing to remember is that if you like making it, your audience will like it more as well! If it looks like you threw it together because you had to – no one will interact with it.
