The First 5 Instagram Posts to Create If You’re Starting (or Restarting) Your Account

Wanna work together? Cool, me too.

When I’m not on the ‘gram, I’m popping into your inbox to help you be more successful on IG

Should we make this official? I’ll send you my Instagram Growth Roadmap immediately just for hopping on.

If you’re starting a brand-new Instagram account—or reopening one after being a little (or a lot) MIA—this episode is for you.

First of all, restarting is allowed. Encouraged, even.
New niche? New offer? Burnout break? Old account that never really clicked? Totally valid reasons to hit refresh.

And here’s the good news:
You do not need 30 posts, a viral Reel, or a perfectly curated grid to get started.

You just need five intentional posts that answer the questions people are already asking before they decide to follow you.

The 5 Questions Every New Follower Is Asking

Before someone hits “follow,” they want to know:

  1. Who is this?
  2. Is this for me?
  3. Can I trust this person?
  4. Can they actually help me?
  5. What do I do next?

If your content answers those questions quickly, follows come naturally. These five posts aren’t random—they’re designed to remove confusion and build trust fast.

Post #1: The “About You / Why I’m Here” Post

(Carousel or Reel)

This post humanizes your brand and anchors your account.

It’s not your full life story.
It’s not trauma dumping.
And it’s definitely not a resume.

Instead, this post connects your story to the problem you help solve today.

Include:

  • Who you help
  • Why you care about this problem
  • Why you talk about these topics
  • A moment that made you say, “This matters to me”

Hook ideas:

  • “I started posting about ___ because I couldn’t stop thinking about this.”
  • “I never planned to talk about ___ on Instagram, but here we are.”
  • “If you’ve ever struggled with ___, this is why I show up here.”

CTA:

  • “Follow if this feels like the space you’ve been looking for.”
  • “You’re in the right place if ___.”

Post #2: Your Paid Offer (Without Being Salesy)

(Carousel – and yes, pin this)

This post normalizes selling and shows people you’re not just here to post tips.

People don’t mind being sold to.
They mind being confused.

Focus on transformation, not transaction:

  • Where someone was before
  • What changed
  • What life looks like now

Carousel structure:

  1. The problem your offer solves
2–3. What life looks like with the solution
  2. Who this is for
  3. What changes when they say yes
  4. How to learn more

Hook ideas:

  • “If ___ feels way harder than it should, this is for you.”
  • “This is for the person who wants ___ without ___.”
  • “I helped my client ___—here’s how.”

CTA:

  • “Details in my bio.”
  • “DM/comment ‘INFO’ to learn more.”

(Email list builder)

Instagram is amazing—but you don’t own it.
Your email list? That’s yours.

This post builds trust with low commitment and gives new followers an immediate win.

A strong freebie:

  • Solves one specific problem
  • Leads naturally to your paid offer
  • Gives a quick, usable result

Hook ideas:

  • “I made this because I kept getting this question.”
  • “If you’re overwhelmed with ___, start here.”
  • “Before you overthink ___, do this first.”

CTA:

  • “Grab it free in my bio.”
  • “Comment ___ and I’ll send it.”

Post #4: High-Value Talking Head Reel

Yes—this is where you show your face.

Why? Because hearing you explain something builds trust faster than anything else.

Teach:

  • A common mistake
  • A mindset shift
  • One belief you stand by
  • 2–3 clear tips

Hook ideas:

  • “Most people are doing ___ wrong—and it’s not their fault.”
  • “If you’ve tried ___ and it didn’t work, this is why.”
  • “Here’s what actually matters when it comes to ___.”

CTA:

  • “Save this.”
  • “Follow for more.”

(Saveable + shareable)

This post shows depth and gives people a reason to stick around.

Formats that work well:

  • Step-by-step guides
  • Myths vs. truths
  • Mistakes to avoid
  • Do this instead posts

Hook ideas:

  • “Stop doing ___ if you want ___.”
  • “5 things that matter more than ___.”
  • “I wish I knew this before ___.”

Make sure you fully deliver on the promise—no open loops.

CTA:

  • “Save this for later.”
  • “Send this to someone who needs it.”

What to Pin (This Matters)

Once these five posts are live, pin three:

  1. Your About You post
  2. Your Paid Offer or Free Offer (based on your current goal)
  3. One high-performing helpful post

These pins act like a mini funnel and answer every question a new visitor has—instantly.

Quick Recap

  • You don’t need 30 posts to start
  • These 5 posts do the heavy lifting
  • They build trust, clarity, and momentum
  • Pin 3 and build from there
