My Weekly Instagram Content Routine (What I Actually Do)

Wanna work together? Cool, me too.

When I’m not on the ‘gram, I’m popping into your inbox to help you be more successful on IG

Should we make this official? I’ll send you my Instagram Growth Roadmap immediately just for hopping on.

Ask and you shall receive — because after getting a few DMs asking how I actually manage to post consistently, I knew it was time to break it all down.

This is my real weekly content routine. Not a Pinterest-perfect schedule. Not a “wake up at 5am and journal” situation. Just the system I use to stay consistent even when life is busy, motivation is low, and my kids are doing kid things.

If you think I wake up every morning magically knowing what to post… no. Absolutely not.

What I do have is a routine. And more importantly — a habit.

Let’s walk through exactly how it works.

This Is Not a Perfect Routine (And That’s the Point)

Before we get into the logistics, I want you to hear this loud and clear:

I don’t post five times a week because I’m constantly motivated.
I post consistently because I have a system.

My life is not quiet or perfectly planned. I have two young boys, client work, launches, sick days, and weeks where energy is… questionable. This routine works because it’s flexible and realistic.

Why I Plan My Content on Thursdays

Thursday is my CEO content day.

Instead of waking up on Monday already feeling behind, I use Thursdays to plan the entire following week. That way:

  • Friday can be used for filming (if I want)
  • Monday–Wednesday is just posting what’s already planned
  • I’m not scrambling when the week starts

This also lines up perfectly with Plug & Post, because new content drops for members every Thursday — meaning we’re all planning ahead together.

If Monday planning feels chaotic for you, try switching to Thursday. It changed everything for me.

What I Decide First (Every Single Week)

1. My main goal for the week

Before I think about formats or hooks, I ask:

  • Is this a growth week?
  • A sales week?
  • A connection-heavy week?
  • A list-building week?

Once I know the goal, everything else gets easier.

2. One primary call to action

Not five. Not “do everything.”
Just one main CTA:

  • Follow
  • DM
  • Comment
  • Buy
  • Join my email list

Your content should support the action you want people to take — not confuse them.

3. My posting minimum vs. ideal

For me:

  • Ideal: 5 in-feed posts + daily stories
  • Busy week minimum: 3 in-feed posts

If I post more? Amazing.
If I hit the minimum? Still a win.

Consistency beats intensity every time.

My Weekly Content Mix

This is what works best for me — yours might look different.

  • 1 talking head reel (authority + trust)
  • 3–4 B-roll reels (easy, fast, low-energy)
  • Optional carousel (if I feel like it)
  • Daily stories (connection + conversions)

B-roll is my best friend. It keeps me consistent without draining my energy.

The Tools I Actually Use (Nothing Fancy)

I keep this very simple.

Planning & ideas:

  • Google Docs & spreadsheets
  • Notes app (hooks, ideas, screenshots)
  • A “low-energy content” list
  • A phone folder full of:
    • client wins
    • DMs
    • FAQs
    • story replies

If people keep asking the same question — that’s content.

Creation:

  • Canva (free version is totally fine)
  • Instagram’s native editor
  • Edits (when needed)
  • CapCut occasionally

I don’t spend hours editing.
And honestly? Small human mistakes perform better anyway.

Scheduling: What I Do (And Don’t Do)

I don’t use third-party schedulers — for myself or my clients.

I only schedule when:

  • I’m traveling
  • I know it’ll be a chaotic week
  • I’m launching something

And I schedule directly inside Instagram or Meta Business Suite.

For my clients, content is scheduled once a month for the entire month — because that protects everyone’s energy.

Why I Only Film Once a Week

I film on Fridays (usually 60–90 minutes).

In one session, I’ll film:

  • 1–2 talking head reels
  • Multiple B-roll clips:
    • working
    • coffee walks
    • podcast recording
    • behind-the-scenes moments

I don’t change outfits.
I change angles, locations, hair — and that’s more than enough.

Pro tip: some of my best-performing content is filmed in sweats.

Where Plug & Post Fits Into All of This

Plug & Post exists because this is how I create content — and people kept asking me to do it for them.

Every Thursday:

  • I plan content for members
  • I use that same structure for my own account
  • No reinventing
  • No trend spiraling
  • No overthinking

You open it → post → move on with your life.

If you’ve ever thought:

“Nicole, just tell me what to post.”

That’s literally what it’s for.

Let’s Recap the System

  • Thursdays = planning + direction
  • Fridays = optional filming
  • One filming day per week
  • One clear CTA per week
  • Content becomes a habit, not a daily decision

You can do this — you just need a rhythm that fits your life.

Your Action Challenge

This Thursday, do one of these:

Option 1:

  • Pick one theme for next week
  • Decide your posting minimum
  • Plan:
    • 1 talking head reel
    • 2 B-roll reels

Option 2 (even easier):

  • Create a B-roll folder on your phone
  • Film a few clips
  • Start building your content bank

That’s it. No pressure. Just momentum.

If you try this, DM me on Instagram @nicoleialeggio and tell me what part of the routine you’re stealing. I’ll hype you up — always.

And if you want this done for you every week, Plug & Post is linked in the show notes.

You’re doing better than you think.
And your content doesn’t need to be harder than this 💛
