It is the last week of 2025. HOW. I can’t believe we’re here.
So for today’s episode, I decided to do something ridiculously fun: I went back through mine and my clients’ most viral posts from the past year… and I’m breaking down exactly why they worked—plus giving you hooks and prompts you can steal for 2026.
Because yes, we love a “wow that got a ton of views” moment… but I want you to measure viral content in a smarter way.
First, let’s define “viral” the way that actually matters
On my account, I’m sitting at around 3,000–4,000 followers, so “viral” for me might be anything above 4,000 views. I did have a few Reels hit 100K+ this year (which is amazing for a small account)… but I don’t want you obsessed with views alone.
Here’s how I define viral content:
- Views
- Followers gained from that post
- Comments (especially if it was a “comment XYZ and I’ll send you info” ManyChat-style post)
Because if you get 1,000,000 views and barely any new followers… I’m not totally convinced that was worth the hype.
So in this post, I’m breaking down:
- the hook
- the psychology behind why it worked
- a universal prompt you can use in your niche
And after you read this, I want you to go back through your content from 2025 and identify your top performers too.
Client 1: Naturopathic doctors + moms (and these numbers are WILD)
Viral Reel #1: 4.2M views + 21,000 follows
This wasn’t just “viral,” it was business viral.
Hook:
“Attention parents: as naturopathic doctors and moms, we recommend avoiding ______. Here’s why…”
Why it worked
- Instant authority + identity
“Naturopathic doctors” = credibility. “Moms” = relatability. It tells you: we’re qualified AND we live this life too. - Clear audience call-out
“Attention parents” instantly filters the right people in. - Pattern interrupt
“Avoiding ____” triggers curiosity and protective instincts. - Built-in retention hook
“Here’s why” makes people stick around… as long as the caption actually delivers.
And here’s the fun part: we reused the same hook later with a different topic.
That second Reel got 467,000 views and over 6,000 follows.
Which proves this important point: the hook structure and format are the asset, not just the topic.
Universal prompt you can steal
“Attention [audience]: as a [credible identity], I recommend avoiding/doing ______. Here’s why.”
Examples:
- “Attention new business owners: as a CPA, I recommend avoiding ______. Here’s why.”
- “Attention brides: as a wedding photographer, I recommend avoiding ______. Here’s why.”
- “Attention moms: as a fitness coach, I recommend avoiding ______. Here’s why.”
CTA tip: End the caption with a clear follow reason:
“Follow for more [type of] tips like this.”
Viral Reel #2: 19.4M views + 9,000 follows
This one was views viral—and still brought in a strong follower bump.
Hook:
“My mom friend told me to STOP _____ and I owe her my life. Here’s what I do…”
Why it worked
- Real-life social proof
“My mom friend” makes it feel like a secret friend-to-friend tip, not a lecture. - Emotional exaggeration
“I owe her my life” creates drama and curiosity. - Instant before/after energy
Something changed, so people stay to find out what. - Super shareable
This is the type of thing people send to their group chat with “TRY THIS.”
Extra detail that helped this one pop
The Reel was B-roll of her doing exactly what she was talking about:
“My mom friend told me to stop folding my kids’ clothes…” and she’s tossing laundry straight into bins.
AND her 6-year-old was going feral in the background—so you got extra comments, extra shares, extra “this is so real.”
Universal prompt you can steal
“My friend/client/mentor told me to stop ______ and it changed everything. Here’s what I do now.”
Examples:
- Money coach: “My accountant told me to stop ______…”
- Photographer: “My editing mentor told me to stop ______…”
- Business owner: “My coach told me to stop ______…”
Viral Carousel: 959,764 views + 2,089 follows
Almost 1M views… from a carousel. YES, it’s possible.
First slide hook:
“When one kid is sick, this is how I stop it from spreading to the rest of the family.”
Why it worked
- High-stakes problem
Nobody wants the whole house taken out. - Save + share magnet
Prevention checklists get saved and sent like crazy. - Specific scenario
“When one kid is sick” is immediate relatability.
Universal prompt you can steal
“When ______ happens, here’s how I prevent ______.”
Examples:
- “When my engagement drops, here’s how I prevent my account from flatlining.”
- “When I fall off my routine, here’s how I prevent a full spiral.”
- “When my house gets messy, here’s how I prevent it from turning into chaos.”
Carousel tip:
- Slide 1 = big hook
- Slide 2 = secondary hook (more specific so they keep swiping)
- Caption line 1 = another hook to get the “more…” tap
Client 2: Viral without Reels… yes, really
Single graphic post: 4.3M views + 11,000 follows
No music. No Reel. Just a graphic and a solid caption.
Text on the graphic:
“I wish more people knew they could calm an anxiety or panic attack with a sour candy.”
That’s it. One sentence. Big impact. (We call these one shots.)
Why it worked
- Ultra simple + surprising
- Curiosity gap
People instantly think: “Wait… how?” - Highly shareable
People want to help their friends. - Non-judgy tone
“I wish more people knew…” feels caring, not preachy.
Universal prompt you can steal
“I wish more people knew ______ could help with ______.”
Examples:
- “I wish more people knew walking after meals could help with blood sugar.”
- “I wish more people knew changing one sentence in your bio could increase inquiries.”
Viral Reel: 3.3M views + 24,000 follows
This one was a masterclass in a visual hook.
She was eating a mini cupcake, “reading” a new study on her phone… then she looks shocked and tosses the cupcake aside like: “WAIT. WHAT. DID YOU SEE THIS?”
Why it worked
- Visual hook in the first second
The face + cupcake moment stops the scroll immediately. - Pattern interrupt
Tossing the cupcake makes people go: “What is happening?” - Authority
She’s explaining a study in simple terms. - Edutainment
Fun and helpful = people stick around. - Retention
Everyone stayed for the explanation.
How you can recreate the concept
You don’t need cupcakes. You need a moment.
Think:
- coffee “spit take”
- dramatic pause
- “wait, hold on…”
- dropping something out of frame
- looking at your phone like you just saw shocking news
Use it sparingly, but when you do? It’s magic.
My account (smaller numbers, still big wins)
Because I want you to see what “viral” can look like when you don’t have a huge audience.
Viral post #1: 159K views + 649 followers
Hook:
“Easy Reel trend and instructions…”
Why it worked
- Instant quick win
They can use it immediately. - Low friction
The word “easy” makes people lean in. - Follow trigger
“This account helps me create content faster.”
Universal prompt
“Easy ______ + exactly how to do it.”
or
“Steal this: ______ (steps included).”
Examples:
- Hairstylist: “Easy holiday hair trend + how to ask for it.”
- Fitness coach: “Easy gym routine + how to structure it.”
- Photographer: “Easy pose prompt + how to direct it.”
Viral post #2: 21K views + 197 followers
Hook:
“I spent the last week analyzing hundreds of the most viral Reels and found the 17 most common hooks…”
Why it worked
- I did the work for you
- Specific number
“17” builds curiosity and credibility. - Clear benefit
Saves time, gives tools → people follow.
Universal prompt
“I spent the last [timeframe] analyzing [thing] and found [#] patterns that keep showing up. Here they are.”
Examples:
- Nutrition: “I analyzed 100 breakfast swaps and found the 10 easiest…”
- Realtor: “I analyzed 50 listings that sold fast and noticed these 7 things…”
- Email marketing: “I analyzed 200 subject lines and here are the 17 that keep winning…”
What all our viral posts had in common
Across mine and my clients’ top performers, the winners had:
- A clear audience call-out
- Authority or lived experience built in
- A specific scenario + clear outcome
- A shareable angle (helping a friend, solving a pain point)
- A repeatable format you can reuse with different topics
Your action challenge
Pick one universal prompt from today and post it this week.
Then track:
- followers gained from the post
