If you’ve ever stared at your phone thinking, “This post has to do everything for me,” this one’s for you.
So many creators and business owners treat every single post like it needs to:
- go viral
- grow their audience
- nurture their people
- AND sell their offer
…all at the same time.
And then when it doesn’t? You feel like you have to come back tomorrow and somehow top it. That is a one-way ticket to “I hate Instagram” land.
The good news: you don’t need 47 brand-new ideas a week.
You need fewer ideas, used better.
This is where repurposing comes in. Let’s walk through the system.
Why You Feel So Drained Creating Content
Most people are doing this:
- Sitting down to post
- Trying to think of a brand new idea
- Putting pressure on it to “be the one” that:
- grows your account
- books clients
- boosts engagement
- Feeling disappointed when it doesn’t magically change everything
Then they start over again the next day.
That’s not a content strategy. That’s a stress strategy.
Instead, I want you to think like this:
One strong idea → many different versions → repeated over time.
That’s not lazy. That’s smart, sustainable marketing.
Part 1: The Mindset Shift — Repetition, But Make It Strategic
First thing you need to remember:
Your audience does not see everything you post.
Most followers see maybe 10–30% of your content. Closer to 10% for many accounts.
So if you say something once and never say it again… most people never even saw it.
Repurposing is not:
- posting the identical Reel every day
- spamming the same thing over and over
Repurposing is:
- taking one core idea
- presenting it in different formats
- saying it in slightly different ways
- at different times
So someone who missed version A might catch version C, and someone who needed to hear it 5 times finally acts on version E.
Repetition = Trust
Think of your favorite educators or creators on Instagram.
They are saying the same 3–5 core things again and again… in different ways.
We see that as:
- consistent
- clear
- “Oh, she really knows her stuff”
That’s the point. Repetition actually makes you the go-to person for your topic.
Efficiency = Sanity
If you tried to come up with brand-new concepts daily, you’d burn out.
Repurposing lets you:
- go deeper, not wider
- stay consistent without frying your brain
- let your best ideas actually work for you
My rule of thumb:
One idea should turn into at least 5 pieces of content.
Just like Starbucks sells the same coffee:
- hot
- iced
- blended
- bottled
- seasonal
You’re doing the same with your content. Same “drink.” Different formats.
Part 2: One Idea → 5 Pieces of Content (Step-by-Step)
Let’s break this down into a simple system you can reuse.
We’ll take one core idea and turn it into:
- A long-form version (talking-head Reel)
- A short, snappy version (B-roll Reel with text)
- A shareable version (single graphic)
- A stories version
- A carousel version
You do not have to post these all in a row. You can spread them out over 1–3 weeks.
Step 1: Start With Your Core Idea (Talking-Head Reel)
This is your “big” version.
- Record yourself talking to the camera
- Aim for 60–90 seconds (max 3 minutes)
- Share your main concept + 2–3 key points
Then:
- Edit out all dead space (no millennial pause at the start)
- Keep it moving so it feels punchy and watchable
- Add auto-captions or native IG captions
This is your anchor piece. Everything else will come from this.
Step 2: Turn It Into a B-Roll Reel (Short, Shareable Version)
Now we’re taking the same idea, but making it easier to consume.
- Grab some simple B-roll: pouring coffee, opening your laptop, typing, walking, etc.
- Add text on screen that acts as a strong hook.
Examples of B-roll hooks you could pull from your talking-head Reel:
- “The mindset shift that finally made Instagram fun again”
- “3 things I stopped doing on IG that changed everything”
- “Read this if you feel behind”
Then:
- Pair it with a trending audio
- Use the same caption from your talking-head Reel (or lightly tweak it)
You now have two Reels from the same idea:
- a talking-head
- a B-roll hook version
You can post them a few days apart, with different hooks, and see which angle hits better.
Step 3: Turn It Into a Story Sequence
Stories are where your warmest people hang out. They’re your best buyers.
Take the same core idea and break it into:
- Slide 1: a selfie or background image with the hook
- “If you feel burnt out by Instagram, read this.”
- Slide 2–4: break down your main points in short bullet-style text
- Slide 5: a poll or slider:
- “Need more of this?”
- “Want me to go deeper on this?”
Optional:
- Talk to camera for 1–3 slides, explaining your idea in a more “FaceTime with a friend” style.
- Add a CTA (link sticker / DM keyword / “Reply with a 🙋♀️ if this is you”).
Same idea. Different vibe. Much cozier.
Step 4: Turn It Into a Single-Graphic Post
Next up: the one-shot, high-impact graphic.
Pick one key line from your idea — something that feels like a punchy takeaway.
Examples:
- “You don’t need more ideas. You need to reuse the ones that work.”
- “If you’re exhausted by Instagram, it’s not you. It’s your content strategy.”
- “Your content doesn’t have to be new. It has to be clear.”
Drop that on a simple graphic:
- plain background or brand color
- large, readable text
Then use your existing caption (again, maybe trimmed or slightly adjusted).
Single graphics can pop off. One of my clients had a simple graphic that said:
“I wish more people knew they could calm an anxiety or panic attack with a sour candy.”
That post alone brought her over a million views and thousands of new followers.
No audio. No dancing. Just a clear, helpful one-liner and a solid caption.
Step 5: Turn It Into a Carousel
Finally, we create the “love letter” version: the carousel.
- Slide 1: big hook
- Slides 2–6: break down each main point
- Last slide: clear call to action
- “Save this for later.”
- “Share this with someone who needs it.”
- “DM me [WORD] if you want help with this.”
You can use:
- photos of you with text overlaid, or
- fully designed Canva graphics
Your caption here can be shorter since the value is inside the slides.
Part 3: Why Repurposing Beats Reinventing Every Time
Let’s rapid-fire the “why” behind this system.
1. It saves your brain (and your time).
You’re not reinventing the wheel every day.
You’re making one really good wheel and rolling it in different directions.
2. It makes you the “go-to” person.
People need to hear your message 7–20 times before they:
- truly remember it
- believe it
- act on it
Repetition is branding.
Saying the same important things in multiple ways makes you memorable.
3. It shows you’re actually an expert.
Anyone can throw random tips at the wall once.
Experts can:
- go deep on one topic
- explain it in different angles
- apply it in different formats
That’s what repurposing does.
4. It keeps your account active during busy or low-energy seasons.
When you’re:
- sick
- traveling
- launching
- in your feelings
…you can lean on repurposed posts instead of disappearing.
5. Your audience actually prefers it.
Not everyone consumes content the same way.
Some people love:
- Reels
- Others love Carousels
- Some only watch Stories
Repurposing lets each person meet your idea in the way they like best.
And you never really know which version is going to be the one that explodes. That’s the fun part.
Quick Recap
- One idea should become at least 5 posts
- Start with a talking-head Reel
- Turn it into:
- B-roll Reel
- Story sequence
- Single graphic
- Carousel
- Repurposing isn’t lazy — it’s how you build trust, authority, and sanity on Instagram
Your Action Step This Week
Take your last post (any format):
- a Reel
- a carousel
- a single image
Now:
👉 Repurpose it once into a different format.
- Reel → carousel
- Carousel → talking-head Reel
- Reel → graphic + caption
That’s it. You’ve now officially started repurposing.
If you want help, DM me on Instagram @nicoleialeggio and tell me:
“I’m repurposing THIS post → into THIS format.”
I’ll cheer you on and give you a quick suggestion if you want it.
You don’t need more ideas.
You just need to let your best ideas work harder for you.
