How I Stay Consistent on Instagram (Even When I Don’t Feel Like It)

Wanna work together? Cool, me too.

When I’m not on the ‘gram, I’m popping into your inbox to help you be more successful on IG

Should we make this official? I’ll send you my Instagram Growth Roadmap immediately just for hopping on.

Let’s be real, There are plenty of times when I don’t want to post on Instagram.

This summer? Absolutely one of those times. The kids are home, we’re running back-to-school errands, and I’m riding all the emotions of sending my 5-year-old to kindergarten for the very first time (cue the tears).

And when life feels like a lot, Instagram is often the first thing to fall off the radar. But here’s the thing: Instagram is still one of the most powerful, free tools we have to grow our business. And while I’m not here to guilt you into posting when you’re burnt out…I am here to give you the tools that help me stay visible, even on the days I don’t feel like it.

First: Let’s Normalize the Slump

There are two times every year when engagement drops for everyone:

  1. Summer
  2. Winter holidays

People are busy. Routines are off. And even creators need a break from the app. If your content creation energy has dipped, you are not alone.

And this episode isn’t about forcing yourself to post. It’s about staying consistent without burning out.

Here’s What I Do to Stay Consistent (Even When I’m Not Motivated):

1. Use B-Roll Like a Pro

B-roll is my go-to low-energy strategy. I just film short clips of my everyday life—pouring coffee, opening my laptop, getting ready for a date night.

→ Pro tip: If you’re already dressed up or feel cute, film a few extra clips! You can reuse these with trending audio or valuable text later.

2. Batch Talking Head Reels When I Feel Good

When I have a good hair/makeup day or feel inspired, I film 2–3 talking head Reels. These don’t have to be perfect. Just imagine your best friend asking you a question about what you do—and answer it casually.

→ These go into my drafts and are life savers on the days I don’t want to film.

3. Keep an Idea Bank

I use the Notes app and voice memos to jot down Reel ideas, captions, or hooks the moment they come to me. That way I’m never starting from scratch.

→ If you want ideas delivered weekly, I’ve got you! Join The Plug & Post Hub — I give you exact text-on-screen, audio, and captions each week.

4. Pre-Schedule (If You Know You’ll Be MIA)

If I know I’m heading into a busy week (like a vacation or school start), I’ll schedule a few posts in advance. It helps keep me visible without needing to log on.

→ But if you didn’t do that? No big deal. Just pick up where you left off. Don’t overthink it.

What “Showing Up” Actually Means

You do not need to post every day.
You do not need to be loud to be effective.

Sometimes, one honest, low-effort post per week that connects with your audience is plenty. Just focus on being real.

Try This Challenge This Week

Here’s what I want you to do:

✅ Film five talking head Reels that you can save for later
✅ Film five B-roll clips of your daily life

Even if you don’t use them all now, they’ll be ready for your next low-energy day—and that makes content so much easier.
